Song of the Day #9: 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover by Paul Simon

Because I had earlier selected a Paul Simon song for my weekly great music video, I debated whether to make yet another song of his the song of the day. Then I remembered that this is my fucking blog and I can do whatever the hell I want with it.

“50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” is a number one single from the 1975 Paul Simon solo album, Still Crazy After All These Years, and it is probably my favorite Paul Simon song. The deft juxtaposition of the mellow verse and the upbeat chorus is just one example of how Simon is a master of his craft, and you have to love the military-style drumbeat that sets the foundation for the song.

You don’t need to be coy, Roy, just get yourself free.

Love this song! I was just listening to Graceland this week and wondering why I don’t listen to him more, he really is quite good.

Isn’t it great?! And gosh, Graceland is such a fantastic album. I’ve got his greatest hits, and sometimes I just put it on random/repeat and let it play. There’s something really comforting to me about Paul Simon’s music.
