Song of the Day #11: Somersault by Zero 7
Hey, what do you know, I’m actually still here!
I first heard British musical duo Zero 7 on the soundtrack for Garden State; their contribution, “In the Waiting Line,” is likely my favorite song on that album, which is really saying something, considering how remarkable a compilation it is. Currently I only own one studio album from Zero 7, 2004’s When It Falls, a dreamy and optimistic collection that has very much lived up to “In the Waiting Line’s” legacy.
My favorite track on When It Falls is a whispy, melodic marriage of accoustic guitar, the earthy voice of guest vocalist Sia Furler and warm, adoring lyrics. If you’ve never heard of Zero 7 but the refrain of the song sounds familiar, it’s likely because it’s been used in several films and television shows.
